Canada Super Visa from Brazil: Income, Insurance and Long Visits

Quick answer

Canada’s Super Visa is for parents and grandparents of eligible Canadian or permanent resident hosts and can authorize visits of up to five years at a time. It is temporary residence, not permanent residence. The file requires proof of relationship, host income and invitation, at least one year of qualifying private health insurance, an immigration medical exam and a credible temporary purpose.

Who can apply and who can host

The applicant must be the biological or adopted parent or grandparent of the host. The host must be at least 18, live in Canada and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or registered Indian, and meet the minimum income requirement.

The applicant files from outside Canada and must remain admissible. A spouse or common-law partner may accompany, but the category is not a general route for all dependent relatives.

Review your route before filing.

Five years per entry is not residence

The current program can allow visits of up to five years at a time and multiple entries over a document validity that may reach ten years. Passport, biometrics and the individual decision can shorten that period.

The border officer still decides admission. The Super Visa does not grant work authorization, permanent residence or unlimited stay. Family sponsorship and Super Visa applications are separate processes.

Keep forms and evidence consistent.

Family size and the income table

Family size can include the host, spouse or partner, dependent children, invited applicants, previously invited Super Visa holders under an applicable invitation and people under an active sponsorship undertaking.

The table updated 29 July 2025 ranges from CAD30,526 for one person to CAD80,784 for seven, plus CAD8,224 for each additional person. Recheck the official table before filing.

Income options effective 31 March 2026

Under option one, the host and co-signer, if applicable, may meet the full minimum in either of the two tax years before the application, normally using CRA notices of assessment.

Under option two, the host and co-signer must reach at least 75% in the preceding year. Continuing income of the visiting parent or grandparent may cover the balance, with documentary proof. The combined total must meet the full threshold.

Plan your application with technical support.

Insurance and medical examination

Private health insurance must be valid for at least one year from entry and issued by a Canadian insurer or a non-Canadian company approved by the minister. A quotation is not sufficient; confirm payment and every official condition.

The immigration medical examination is a separate mandatory requirement. Policy dates, insured names, benefits and exclusions should match the travel plan.

Temporary purpose still matters

Income, insurance and relationship do not remove the temporary residence assessment. The officer considers purpose, ties, family, finances and whether the applicant will leave at the end of the authorized visit.

Applicants living in Brazil should document their lawful status and ongoing circumstances without suggesting that Brazilian residence changes passport nationality.

Check foreign insurance carefully

Not every international policy qualifies. Verify that a non-Canadian insurer is on the minister-approved route and retain the certificate, receipt and full policy wording.
